QUESTION
Am I going to like what I hear at the event? Will there be lots of dancers there?

ANSWER
We would like to think so. We invited a variety of DJs that have all done this before and understand how to play good music for dancers. The bands have also played for dancers at SoFLeX or similar events. They also know how to cater to our crowd.

At some of the venues we will have multiple rooms (a mostly Lindy room with a touch of blues and a "blues" room). At other venues, we have just the one room and we'll mostly play music of swing/lindy tempos.

Over the years, we have done a great job attracting dancers from all over the United States and Canada, as well as our share of those from overseas. Many of them are multi-year veterans of SoFLeX. We would like to think we will offer up something to keep everyone happy throughout the weekend.

QUESTION
Why should I register early? Can't I just pay when I get there?

ANSWER
The biggest incentive to pay early is to guarantee a housing slot. In addition to the housing issue, there is a regular and a late registration. "Early Registration", um...well...costs less. Late registration costs more.

QUESTION
Where should I fly into?

ANSWER
You probably want to fly into Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood International Airport (FLL). You can fly into Miami (MIA) or Palm Beach (PBI), but those are much further north (45 miles) or south (25 miles) from all of the venues. We do not have good public transportation down here, so you do need to concern yourself with transport to and from the airport.

QUESTION
How can I get to and from the airport if I don't have a car, but will be staying with friends that do?

ANSWER
There are also shuttle services and shared car services operated by transportation companies that will bring you from the airport to either a venue or your host (for a fee of course).

As we get closer to the event you will start to see chatter on the Facebook group or Yehoodi postings. You can coordinate with others there. Finally, your host might be able to hook you up with a ride. You can check with them as a last resort. Ultimately, you are responsible for ensuring you can get from point A to B, so plan accordingly. Pay particular attention to how you plan to get back to the airport especially after the Sunday night dance.

QUESTION
Should I rent a car?

ANSWER
If you aren't in a house with people that travel on your same schedule, you should consider it. We don't have a good public transportation system down here and taxis should be a last resort. We are pretty spread out and a ride gets expensive in a hurry.

You can go onto any one of numerous travel sites and look for the appropriate dates. Rates will vary. If you look around, you can get away with $25/day or less.

The idea is to pool some of your friends together to chip in. Just remember to pay attention to where you will pick up and drop off the car. You might be able to save some money by getting an off-airport rental near where your host lives. Just remember to coordinate getting to and coming from the airport.

QUESTION
How do I get hosted?

ANSWER
Fill out a housing form if you didn't already arrange housing with friends. The sooner you do that, the better. Housing will be set aside on a first-paid basis. Housing is generally limited and we will not host attendees who do not pay for a weekend package.

QUESTION
What do I need to bring if I am being hosted?

ANSWER
Housing assignments will go out about a week before the event and you can coordinate with your host and the other guests then.

Technically, your host only needs to provide a roof over your head and working indoor plumbing. After that, it is gravy. If you have specific needs, please note them in the housing form. We will do our best to accommodate you, although we can't guarantee all requests. You might want to consider a small gift for your awesome host if you think they were awesome enough for you.
